Officers Searched the Woods
A wooded drainage area ran behind the neighborhood.
Police entered with flashlights.
Within minutes, more units arrived.
Officers searched both sides of the trail.
One deputy found a torn piece of dark fabric caught on a low fence.
Another found fresh shoe prints near the creek.
Then an officer heard movement farther ahead.
“Police! Stop!”
A figure ran between the trees.
The Chase Lasted Less Than a Minute
Two officers followed.
The person crossed a narrow footbridge.
One officer nearly caught up near a maintenance road.
The suspect shoved a trash container into the path behind them.
The officer moved around it and continued.
The figure reached a parking area.
A dark pickup truck suddenly started.
The officer shouted:
“Stop the vehicle!”
Instead, the truck accelerated away.
No officer fired a weapon.
Patrol cars immediately began searching nearby roads.
