David Came Home Early
“Hannah?”
Her father stepped into the foyer.
He looked at the garment bag.
Then at Rebecca.
Then at Chloe.
Then at the seamstress quietly collecting her things.
“What is going on?”
Hannah looked at him.
“Did you tell Rebecca that Chloe could wear Mom’s wedding dress?”
David frowned.
“What?”
Rebecca immediately responded:
“You said we could look at it.”
David stared at her.
“I said you could show Chloe pictures of it.”
Nobody spoke.
Rebecca’s face went pale.
Hannah asked:
“So you never said she could try it on?”
“No.”
“Or alter it?”
“What?”
David looked toward Chloe.
“Were you altering Laura’s dress?”
Chloe immediately said:
“I thought you agreed.”
Rebecca closed her eyes.
