Ryan Tried to Help Pick Everything Up
Megan reached for one envelope at the same time Ryan did.
Their hands collided.
Megan pulled the envelope back.
“Don’t touch it.”
Ryan replied:
“I’m trying to help.”
“You already helped enough.”
Ryan became defensive.
“I didn’t take anything.”
Megan stepped toward him.
Josh moved between them.
“Everyone back up.”
Carol reached toward the torn bag again.
Rachel stopped her by placing a hand on the handle first.
“No.”
Carol turned.
“Excuse me?”
Rachel replied:
“You’re done touching the gifts.”
The tension exploded again.
Carol Shoved the Chair Aside
A small decorative chair blocked the hallway.
Carol pushed it out of the way so she could move past Rachel.
It scraped loudly across the floor.
Rachel stepped back.
Megan moved forward.
Josh immediately raised both hands.
“STOP.”
Ryan grabbed his mother’s arm gently.
“Mom. Let it go.”
Carol pulled away.
“I am not being treated like a thief at my son’s wedding.”
Megan replied:
“Then stop acting like one.”
That sentence echoed down the hallway.
