The Party Continued

Not immediately.

For several minutes, the atmosphere remained uncomfortable.

Richard asked Emily whether she wanted to go home.

She shook her head.

“No.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

“You don’t have to prove anything.”

Emily looked around the ballroom.

“I know.”

Then she picked up another tray.

Richard almost smiled.

“You’re going back to work?”

“Yes.”

“After that?”

Emily replied:

“The other servers didn’t do anything wrong.”

Her father nodded.

Then Emily added:

“And apparently someone has to make sure your rich friends get their champagne.”

Richard laughed despite himself.

The tension finally broke.

But Something Changed That Night

The story spread among hotel employees.

Not because Emily was secretly the owner’s daughter.

Most eventually found that funny.

What mattered was what Richard did afterward.

The following week, he held a management meeting.

He changed the guest misconduct policy.

Employees were given clearer authority to walk away from abusive situations.

Managers were instructed to intervene earlier.

Events staff received additional support.

And Richard made one rule very simple:

A guest’s spending did not determine how much disrespect an employee was required to tolerate.

Emily suggested the wording herself.
