Chapter 9 – The Screenshot
It should have disappeared.
It didn’t.
Several viewers had screen-recorded the moment.
Within hours, clips were circulating.
Not because the volunteer had accused anyone.
She hadn’t.
She had simply said:
“These are Argo’s discharge papers.”
That one sentence contradicted the entire fundraising narrative.
Haven Paws posted a statement.
It blamed confusion.
Argo had indeed seen a veterinarian.
But the rescue claimed further diagnostics remained necessary.
The wording of the livestream, Elisa said, had been “imprecise due to emotional stress.”
Then Marco sent Anna something else.
A screenshot from the private rescue chat.
It had been posted ninety minutes before the livestream.
Elisa:
Don’t wash him yet.
Another volunteer:
But he’s covered in urine from transport.
Elisa:
After live. Please. We need people to understand how bad intake was.
Then:
Keep the wrap visible.
Anna read the messages twice.
She felt sick.
Not because washing an animal later was automatically abuse.
Because she now understood the priority.
The animal’s discomfort was part of the presentation.
The rescue did not merely document suffering.
It curated it.
