Diane Said Lauren Was “Basically Family”

Diane tried to explain.

“Lauren was part of our lives for years.”

Rachel responded:

“And I’m Mark’s wife.”

“Nobody said you weren’t.”

“Apparently somebody forgot.”

Mark asked Rachel to lower her voice.

That made her angrier.

Diane continued:

“When someone you’ve known for years is struggling, you don’t just abandon them.”

Rachel looked directly at Mark.

“Then you use your own money.”

Mark replied:

“We’re married. It’s all our money.”

Rachel almost couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“Exactly.”

The table went silent.

Then Rachel Learned It Wasn’t Only Rent

Courtney finally spoke.

“Maybe we should stop talking about this here.”

Rachel turned toward her.

“What else don’t I know?”

Nobody answered.

Rachel looked at Mark.

“What else?”

Mark said:

“Nothing.”

Courtney looked uncomfortable.

Rachel caught it.

“Courtney.”

Mark immediately said:

“Don’t.”

That confirmed there was something else.

Courtney sighed.

“He helped with her car too.”

Rachel froze.

“What car?”

Mark’s face tightened.

“It was twelve hundred dollars.”

Rachel stared at him.

That payment had not even come from the savings account.

It had come from their checking account.

Which meant the real total wasn’t $8,400.

It was $9,600.
